Residential energy credit question

Asked onThursday, February 09, 2023 by Janice

IRS states in 2022 you can get energy credit for new energy efficient A/C 10% of cost.(1,140) I have manufacturer certification of high efficiency, EER 12.5. I do not see any area that this information can be documented. Only energy efficient building property($300 max) Which doesn’t even give me an energy credit. Can I claim the 10% or not?

Claiming a parent

Asked onThursday, February 09, 2023 by Cynthia

I made 12,984 in 2022. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea last year and struggled with it all year. My son helped to keep me with everything. He paid for my housing, food, and transportation. Can he claim me as an independent on his taxes or would it work out better for us to do our taxes separately? He made 38,000 in 2022.

Claiming dependents

Asked onThursday, February 09, 2023 by Matthew

I’m currently going through a divorce and we are still living together. We have 2 children. There are no court orders currently in place. I would like to file my return on my own under Married but filing separately and I would like to claim one of my children as a dependent and let her claim the other, but my wife is very controlling and I don’t think she will agree. Are there any legal repercussions for doing this?

Education

How would this affect eligibility?

Asked onThursday, February 09, 2023 by Taija

My partner makes around $46,000 before taxes, and last year I didn't make more than $4,000 so we were wondering how it would affect my eligibility for FAFSA and student loans if they were to claim me as a dependent on their taxes. They don't make enough to cover all living expenses and my school expenses at the same time.
