I recently moved to the Joliet area and contacted Jacqueline McTee to prepare my 2021 tax returns. Her office stated most returns run about $300 to $350 to complete. When my return was completed I was informed my bill was $900 and when I asked her some questions about how my multi-state returns were divided she could not answer my questions and needed to review further. She took three more days and called me to inform me she had made an error and I actually owed another $4000. Because I was concerned about the inability to properly answer my questions and the errors she acknowledged I decided to take my information to another tax service to review ( at my expense). Two days later I was informed that McTee had incorrectly counted income as previously untaxed when in fact my employer had withheld federal taxes as captured on my W2. The error resulted in a $12,000 error in my favor. When I informed McTee that I would be filing with the other tax service she apologized but offered no restitution for her error or my inconvenience. I hope this information helps others make an informed decision about whether to use McTee to perform their taxes and risk overpaying on your return. As an additional data point my second tax preparer charged me $150 to complete my return with the exact same documentation. I know who I will be using next year!
