Are there any reporting requirements for receiving more than $10,000 in cash in one business transaction?

You must file IRS Form 8300 within 15 days of receipt of more than a $10,000 cash transaction. There are penalties for failure to file Form 8300. Only cash payments require this additional reporting. Cash is money. It is currency and coins of the United States and any other country. Cash is also certain monetary instruments - a cashier’s check, bank draft, traveler’s check, or money order Funds received by check or wire transfers do not apply.
